Cambridge rejection. Bugger.

Cambridge's pool

So, you may or may not know that I applied to Cambridge University this year.
They put me in the pool.

What's the pool? A sort of limbo: the Cambridgian gods have decided that, while there's no room at Pembroke for me (the college I originally applied to) I have suitable merit to (maybe) go to another college. In this pool I am offered up for any college to take a look at me and decide "that's who I want", or toss me back into the pool like a pair of dirty Speedos.

There are a lot of people in the pool

My point is, why do they have to be so cruel about it? After the legendarily gruelling Cambridge interviews, they could at least afford me the dignity of a flat rejection - I can't take not knowing. The worst part is, they could actually call me back for more interviews.

Oh wait, that's not the worst part. They could call me back for more interviews, and then still reject me. Cambridge just expects me to bend over backwards for them. And I will. I'll bend so hard.

Anyway... Cambridge, we know you're good, and you know you're good, but do you have to be so obvious about it? I've noticed it from the start - an arrogance in the way Oxbridge (don't think I've forgotten about you Oxford) deal with their applicants:

  • You can't apply to both Cambridge and Oxford
  • If applying to Oxbridge, you have to apply early

Why does Oxbridge get this special treatment over and above other universities? Because they're the best, and the best universities get the best students. How can any other university hope to become as prestigious and powerful as Oxbridge? Well, they can't. It's unfair.

And yet I still really want Cambridge to give me an offer.

2011: Year of the awesome PS3 games

Don't believe me? Well...

Still no? OK...

If you're still not convinced...

OK. I reckon that settles it.
